PM Fires 4 Police for Firing Guns at Tea Plantation

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet, ordered the National Police Commissioner to expel police officers who opened fire at Mount Kirirom.

A report was made from the night of November 12, when residents heard singing and loud cheering mixed with the sound of gunshots at a tea plantation on Kirirom Mountain. The police inspected the site later and found 112 shells, 36 M16 ammunition, along with 55 other unknown bullets. Cambodia forbids off-duty officers from carrying their weapons although it is not clear if the officers were on duty or not.

So far, four police officers have been fired, while others remain. However, the PM said that the government will gradually get rid of negative officials, including those involved in drugs and gambling.

He made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony of the Koh Norea-Koh Pich Bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
